Invigorating growth is critical: When the economy expands, it improves standards of living, promotes innovation and makes households wealthier. Economic growth in Spain and France was stronger than expected last year. But the US is outperforming mainly for one key reason: Robust productivity growth. Productivity growth came in well below expectations in the first three months of the year, according to Labor Department data released last week. A “course correction” isn’t an even stronger US economy: Economic policymakers around the world need to address a range of key issues.

The Fed and economic policy were top of mind this week given the central bank's Wednesday decision to yet again leave interest rates unchanged , as it has since last summer. This week included the conclusion of April's trading month, which marked the first down month of the year for all three major market averages. Indeed, some recent earnings reports have raised doubts about the economy, with brands from McDonald's and Starbucks evidencing signs of strain among consumers. While no new inflation numbers are scheduled for release next week, investors will see reports on March wholesale inventories, March consumer credit and May consumer sentiment from the University of Michigan. AI trade Though interest rates took center stage this week, investors also continued monitoring companies tied to the artificial intelligence boom amid the stocks' recent choppiness.

Read previewI've lived in London for nearly two years and have been visiting the capital city for even longer. The food scene is pretty diverse, and London has a reputation for having chain restaurants and upscale dining experiences, like the Ritz and after-the-theater restaurants around Covent Garden. But recently, I dined at quite the hidden gem: The Clink Restaurant inside Brixton Prison. Entering the prison reminded me of going through airport securityWe had to go through security before entering the restaurant. The restaurant is located in the center of the prison courtyardThe Clink is housed in a converted governor's house that dates back to 1819.

With 74% of American travelers concerned about the impact of overtourism, environmentally safe travel is increasingly becoming a priority. To address overtourism and the effect it can have on the climate, countries around the world have started charging fees to visit some major destinations. In January, Tripadvisor, in partnership with the Global Destination Sustainability Movement, assessed 100 destinations with a four bubble rating or higher over 12 months (October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023). Tripadvisor also used traveler reviews containing terms referencing sustainability, like "environmentally friendly," "eco-tourism," and "waste reduction" to rank the world's top most sustainable cities. No American cities made Tripadvisor's inaugural list, while Montreal, Canada, is the only destination in the Americas to rank.

Experts predict that in 2024 travelers will look away from popular destinations like London and Paris, and that interest in major cities in Asia will continue to rise. This month, Tripadvisor announced its Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards, which ranks the world's top trending destinations for 2024. The ranking was determined based on the quality and quantity of reviews from global travelers for accommodations, restaurants and "things to do" that were posted to Tripadvisor from October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023.

CNMC, as the watchdog is known had been looking into a complaint lodged by a local association defending consumers. "CNMC found no indication that the platforms have participated in or facilitated the publication of these false opinions," it said in a statement, adding that the companies invested in detecting fake reviews and collaborated with ongoing investigations. The watchdog has, however, detected possible signs of a violation of consumer protection regulations, and therefore sent the complaint to the consumer rights authority. An Amazon spokesperson said his company is acting against fake reviews on its websites.

Tyler linked his post to a $34.88 smartwatch available on TikTok Shop from a merchant called MoonMates, which did not represent the item as Apple-made. Because the video featured a TikTok Shop tag, Tyler was likely eligible for a commission on any watch sales his video generated. Others may do it unintentionally because they're not entirely sure whether a steeply discounted TikTok Shop product is authentic. If false video reviews proliferate across TikTok Shop, it could pose an existential risk for the nascent e-commerce platform.
